We have a high expectations for your children throughout the school day. It is important for our learning environment that students are focused and engaged, and ready to participate cooperatively with others. Researchhas shown that at the elementary level, there is minimal benefit. Their overall well-being is important to all of us who teach your children, and we understand that even at this age, cultivating a work-life balance is important to the overall child.
In consideration of this, there will rarely be papers sent home for completion but, there are learning opportunities:
Students are expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes daily outside of school hours. I cannot stress how important this is, considering the role that reading plays in all areas of the curriculum. I do not require students to read from any particular genre, format, or level--just that they read for enjoyment.
Students may practice their math skills in a number of ways. The links for these appear under the Academics section, under Math, as well as below:
Math SuperStars is a PTA-sponsored program, beginning Sept. 11th
Prodigy: your child's username and password are on the sheet in their binder
From the general Math page there are other math links with games and practice
Flash cards can be used for practice to increase fluency
Occasional long-term projects will be assigned, with requirements sent home in advance
Any time there is a specific concept I would like your child to practice at home, your child will be responsible for writing it down in the planner.
