Thank you to those of you who were able to come to Parent Information Night! Under the "Parent Info/Links" drop-down menu is the slideshow from Parent Information Night.
Students now have their Usernames and Passwords sheet in their binders. This includes passwords for Prodigy. Monday: Remember: there is NO SCHOOL for the Labor Day Holiday Wednesday: Time For Kids orders are due. These will be used in the classroom for academic purposes. Units of Study: Reading: We will continue with our novel study in Fantastic Mr. Fox. We will be using this book to teach strategies on rereading to remember where we were in the story, show sequencing of events, and several comprehension work strategies to use while reading. Social Studies: This week will find us talking about how our role in the community impacts others. Writing: We will be analyzing personal narrative topics to decide if they are “Watermelon or Seed” ideas. Students will add to their writer’s notebooks and work with a partner to retell a seed story with sequencing and details. Grammar topics are verbs and nouns. Science: This week the students will be exploring with solids, liquids, and gases. Students will make an ice cream float on Friday to show condensation and gas. They will also be exploring with different hands on activities to show the difference between the 3 states of matter. Math: Students will be adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers. They will also analyze dot plots and bar graphs. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Thank you, and ave a wonderful weekend! I hope all of you were able to stay safe and dry this weekend! On Friday I shared a short video with our students, explaining how hurricanes form; we will discuss this again during our weather unit later in the year, but since I knew we'd have lots of rain, I wanted to mention it.
First of all, several students mentioned having friends and loved ones living in the coastal areas. My own family chose to ride out the storm in Corpus Christi [they are all safe, and their homes were not damaged], but now we are concerned for my husband's family in Houston. If your child returns to school with lingering concerns, please let me know, so I can be aware. Secondly, on a day like today when we will surely be indoors for recess, your child may bring something to school to play with during that time. Please make sure your child's name is on it, that it fits inside their backpack, and please do not send electronics. Thank you for your understanding with our district's two-hour delay. We know how this impacts your families and jobs. Sommer will open its doors this morning at 9:10 am, and class begins at 9:40 am. I enjoyed getting to know your children this first week of school!
